The Chacha has sovereign discretion to strike commemorative coins and commission the issue of commemorative stamps. Commemorative coins and stamps are produced to mark important events or to support a cause or work to which the Chacha is dedicated. These collector coins and stamps are highly prized by philatelists and collectors.

Commemorative stamps were produced to mark the paper anniversary of the reign of Chacha IX.

To express his condolences to the royal family and to the subjects of the King of Abomey and to bid farewell to a great monarch and friend, the Chacha ordered the issue of a commemorative stamp, worth $2.65 Canadian, bearing the image of His late Majesty.
