Mito, ChaCha IX
The current Chacha, His Royal Highness Mito, Chacha IX, also known by his secular name Roger Moise de Souza, was born on December 30, 1958 in Treichville in Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast). He is an important and influential member of the House of de Souza, and a direct descendant of Don Francisco Félix de Souza, Chacha I. Chacha IX holds a degree in business administration and spent his career in international trade as a freight forwarding merchant. A successful businessman who is respected among his peers, he was involved primarily in the import and export of goods and foodstuffs in West Africa, Europe and Asia.
On August 11, 2017, following consultations with the elders and senior officials of the House of de Souza, it was proposed that Roger Moise de Souza be named as the designated successor to Chacha I, and he was enthroned under the regnal name of Mito, Chacha IX, by His Majesty King Agoli-Agbo of Abomey.
Of a friendly, generous, and discreet nature, Chacha IX is known to his subjects as a good man, articulate and fair-minded, but also as an inspiring and visionary leader who looks outwards to the world and the future.
